Tooltips beat thumbnails, especially on small screens. They pop open on hover and disappear after the cursor moves.
Tooltips are easy to include. An image plus up to 500 chars in paragraph format and up to 3 bullet points. Instead of thumbnail clickbait, you can provide actual information about your video, blog, etc. that will help your user decide whether to click. The default text size is readable on a cell phone screen.
Sometimes you may wish to include more info than a tooltip can handle. You're gonna love the frog!

Corporate subscriber counts reflect corporate motives. Many creators complain about "the involuntarily unsubscribed" and sudden massive drops in their subscriber counts.
